Logan is a fairly recent import to ND. He is the Assistant Editor of the Jamestown Sun. (Having been Editor in Chief of The Collegian back in college at JC – I can attest that can’t be an easy job!) I find his blog well written and enjoyable. Even if you aren’t from Jamestown – stop by and take a look. You might move here and like it too.

It was actually a very good time. The training itself was useful and informative, and after our suggestions are incorportated, should be really good for anyone. I also had an old coworker in the class, along with a few people I knew otherwise, so that made the experiance more fun as well.

Anywho – finally by Friday I was able to get caught up on all of my regular projects here… but such is the travel thing lol.

Back in Dallas again

Safe to say, it explained why my Qwest DSL wasn’t live. When Daktel had come in to install their equipment, they had rewired all of the phone jacks, removing the Qwest line totally from the loop. After two hours I ended up just rewiring it myself. Daktel, was less than helpful. The line “People in Jamestown have a choice, if you want them they have to come out and hook you up” was less than cordial. “Do you get a better deal from them or something,” and smirking when I said yes, was plainly antagonistic. Qwest, since the line was cut inside of the house, views that as the home owners responsibility, so would have charged $99 to come and fix it. (I see their point.)

It was quite clear that Daktel should have never cut the Qwest line coming in, there simply was no reason for it, even if the previous tenants were using Daktel. So what I ended up doing was running up to Radio Shack, picking up the 4 pack of telephone line splicers for $3, cutting a 4″ pice of Cat5, and using a pair of lines in that to make a patch. Golly gee, once I had… the DSL suddenly started working.

As you can see by the pictures, it really wasn’t that difficult to do. (Having done a bit of work with networking cable before made it easier, but really even if I hadn’t it wasn’t that bad since I had wire cutters and wire strippers.) It was really the principle of the matter that I shouldn’t of had to fix something that shouldn’t have ever been done in the first place.

As far as the rest of the weeekend went… well my friends rock… that is all I have to say about the whole moving process… oh and I love Fisher’s truck, but figured he would want it back.

Well things have been pretty busy with the new job and all, though that is a really good thing, since the job is going very well and everyone is happy to have me working with them. (I work with some great people, true I work out of home, but we keep in contact via IM or email quite often)

Anywho – for the move, we had a couple of trucks, Kev, Joe, Shane, Ann, and Colin… the moving part sucked, but it isn’t ever fun, so despite that must say that it went really well. Now it is the process of going through everything, but that is working. It was very muggy out, so it kind of sucked for everyone, but with all the great help, we really got most of it done in a pretty good amount of time.

I am happy with the way my office setup is working out, even better than I had it in the basement of the old place. (The old conferance table I got from Joe one time is perfect for my desk, I have fit both monitors and the laptop on it, so works perfectly for me all 3 computers running at once. (Yes geeky!)

Back to work, new location, same stuff!

Does this stop a true geek?  Heck no!  Work is calling me (since I did let them know I may or may not be online for parts of today.) if anything comes up, but I like to be on top of things.  Check email, look for new cases, etc.  So… I hop in the Escort hit “Refresh Wireless Networks” a couple of times while I was on my way over to the hotel with wireless.  (Thanks Gladstone!)  The Jamestown Middle School apparently has wireless, didn’t know that.  I was able to hit the exchange server at work and at least get my work email.

Still… not enough… so drove the last couple of blocks and am now currently parked outside of the Gladstone hotel.  Checked the email and case queue again, all clear, flew through the personal email, hopped on messenger, and was so amused that I had to blog about it.

Well that is my funny story for today – “Leech net access, Warblog today” is the new slogan.

Warblogging

The big announcement is that I accepted a position with a company called ePartner Solutions – leaving the internship with the company I had been looking at.  The company and position I was at, I just was not going to enjoy long term.  I had left my resume online, and had occasionally been speaking to recruiters about Axapta (Well now Dynamics AX) work.  (That is the software I had been supporting in Fargo at my contract job.  I had been out of town for a couple of days because the company had flown me down to New Mexico to interview.  (Fun and impressive enough on its own.)

I was just really impressed with the people at ePartner Solutions.  The position I have here is that of basically translating to Axapta support.  For now I will be working totally out of home, which will be nice because I will not have to be on the road full time, and I will get to spend more time with my soon-to-be wife.  (Jennie duh!)  ePartners has taken quite a bit of time talking about how to grow my career.  In theory I should be able to shift into a consultant based position later if I so choose to.  It is really nice to see a company care that much about an employees professional development.

Anyways – that brings me to Dallas this week.  That is where our corp office is located.  It just happened that this week was the quarterly New Hire Orientation along with the first ever full Axapta team meeting.  So I have been down here since Tuesday, but I fly back tomorrow after lunch.  It has been a very good trip down here.  I have gotten a chance to meet and network with a lot of the companies upper management, along with all of the Axapta Consultants I will be working and communicating with.  That is going to be invaluable in the next few months.  (I even got a chance to meet my UK counterpart and his director, allowing for even closer communication between everyone.)

All in all – I am really excited to be at this company.  The work is far more in line with what I enjoy doing, and it is always the people that make the place.  I look forward to keeping everyone posted on this new job.

Checking in from Dallas

The Stutsman County Fair is this week as well.  Jennie and I went up for a little bit last night, but didn’t stay too long.  I was still tired from the traveling, and we had our first marrage class this morning, so didn’t want to oversleep.  (The class went well also.)  Tonight my friends (Holiday) are playing at the fair, so we will be up there a bit longer and it will be a great time I am sure.  Ann and Shane are heading up – so some friends to wander around the fair for a while with as well.

Well that is all for now, I will have a big post ready for everyone on Monday.

The Weekend Update

This also means we get to move back to Jamestown, which is what Jennie and I would like anyways. We are checking out a house we might rent this weekend – so I have my fingers crossed that things will work out there.

The job I have had in Fargo has been a great experiance. Yet, Jennie and I fell in love with Jamestown. So between that and the advancement of my career in the Tech industry, it was basically a too good of a chance to turn down. Once in town I also will be able to work more on the SGB Tech company. That stalled a little bit, but once I am back in town I am hoping that I am able to revive that along with being more directly involved in the other company. (Distro of the Month LLP.)

W00+ it is about to get exciting again!!!

Other than that… it has been a pretty slow morning. Work is business as usual, i.e. slow. I am however, still working on the business planning. Talked with a grant service place last night, but they wanted a lot of money up front. Something that I am not sure I would be willing to do even if I had the money. There are just too many scams these days.

Almost forgot – but on the bright side, the whole wedding thing took a great leap forward this weekend. We finally put all the small notations together and made a budget. Yeiks was that scary, but really as far as weddings go – not too horrible. Oh and we put the deposit down on the hall (and some for the food), so that is locked in. Then we also talked to one of the possible dj’s for the dance part. So all in all, it was a rather productive wedding weekend. ThatEdeGuy’s wife is the wedding planner, so I believe she was rather pleased as well haha.
I really don’t have anything else interesting at this point. So I will keep “working” and update with another post when I find something.
